Engagement | Hood River
I've known Derek since he was in grade school. In fact, he was one...if not the first...clients who ever booked a session with me. He needed headshots for an acting gig a few years back. Fast-forward some time and here we are, just a few months away from his wedding with his fantastic finance Jasmine. I liked Jasmine from the moment I met her. At first because she was awesome with my kids and would patiently listen to them tell stories about Harry Potter for hours, and later because after talking with her...she's a genuinely cool person. And how brave are these two? To just turn their noses to the rain and let me fire away while they got drenched. So fun.
I'm stoked for a gorgeous wedding at Lewis River Golf Course this summer, where I'll get to capture their magical day as well as hang out with so many great people!
Engagement | Hood River
"My uncle has a helicopter, maybe you could shoot of the wedding from it?" Um yeah. I thought shooting from a moving canoe last summer was the cat's meow (and it really was)...but a helicopter? I'm. All. In.
Ben and Kara are the epitome of a happy couple. Seriously, grab your closest dictionary and look up the term "meant to be." Go ahead, I'll wait. Ok...wait? Terms aren't in the dictionary. Well if they were you'd see these two. Piggyback rides on the spit, laughs and smooches on the streets of Hood River, and more inappropriate comments that only bring on more laughs...it's the perfect recipe for a photo session like this.
2015 is the start of some great things for these too.
"For once, I can touch what my heart used to dream of
Long before I know
Oh, someone warm like you
Would make my dream come true..."
- Stevie Wonder
Engagement | Trout Lake
"Try not to look stupid." It's always great when the best direction during a photo session comes from the bride herself.
Dayne and Ariel are totally made for each other. The way they play off each other is taylor made for a lifetime of fun and adventure. We spent a warm evening in Trout Lake hanging out by the creek (it might be a brook...or a stream...maybe a small river...Thesaurus.com didn't help much in this scenario), chatting, laughing and snapping a few photos along the way. I love when clients hand-pick their favorite spots; places that mean something to them.
"...Don't let us get stupid, all right?
Just make us be brave
And make us play nice
And let us be together…"
- Warren Zevon
Wedding | Laurelbrook
Couples like this remind me of why I do what I do.
It's really easy for me to start to feel a little burned out by late September. But as soon as you spend 30 seconds with Nicole and Jason, you feel energized...inspired...hopeful. They have a love and spirit that's just really contagious and positive.
Nicole couldn't stop peeking through the window...constantly amazed and near tears as she named all the guests who walked in...genuinely nervous and excited as she told me about each guest. And that excitement only grew as she and Jason exchanged vows and rings. As the night went on, the excitement morphed into laughs, tears, more laughs and some great dancing. As it should.
Jason and Nicole -- thank you, thank you, thank you. You guys throw a great party and I wish you the very best on your new life.
Wedding | Bridal Veil Lakes
One of the cool things in life is to realize that there are amazing places around you -- sometimes you've lived your whole life just miles from them -- and you never knew they existed. Bridal Veil Lakes is a breathtaking setting and the perfect backdrop for Cy and Kimberly's wedding. Amongst their friends and family, they exchanged their own vows and celebrated with a canoe ride on the lake as the sun began to set. It was a sublime moment and the perfect way to start their new life together.
Cy and Kimbo...and Captain! Thanks so much for the honor or capturing your day. Congrats your marriage and I wish you all the best.
Wedding | Highland Meadows Ranch
What a wedding. The Highland Meadows Ranch sits in what feels like the middle of nowhere. But no matter where you looked, you saw pieces of Ashely and Fernando's souls. Whether it was the painted pallets and decor that her father sanded, stained and etched; the bar that Fernando built by hand, the purple heart stitched to her dress made from her grandpa's marine's uniform -- or his actual purple heart tied to her bouquet -- one could easily tell how much families and friends matter in their everyday lives.
Thank you so much guys. You crazy kids throw an amazing, beautiful and touching party.
Wedding | Glenwood
Love can be sophisticated, intimate and fancy. It can also be insane, hilarious and on display for the whole world. Weddings like Derek and Brooke's are my favorite -- they're all about two people who are so over-the-moon for each other that no one could mistake that these two are made for one another. And yet the day is full of small glances and gestures shared between just the two of them, that you know what they have is so unique and special.
Congrats Derek and Brooke! Your day, at the foot of Mt. Adams, was magical from start-to-finish. Enjoy your new lives together and I look forward to our paths crossing again one day.
Wedding | Sunshine Mill Winery
So what's if it's over 100 degrees on your wedding day? As far as I'm concerned that's good luck.
Zack and Kendall tied the knot last week at the beautiful Sunshine Mill Winery in the The Dalles. It's a tremendous venue -- and like the couple -- full of character. Surrounded by their friends and families, they showed just how perfect they are for each other. Whether they're dining on beer and gourmet pizza or honeymooning at Fenway Park, the smiles aren't coming off these faces. Their relaxed demeanor and willing to roll with whatever the days bring will, no doubt, provide great foundation for the roads ahead. I even Jedi-Mind-Tricked Kendall to trek up several stories to the top of the mill...in that dress...in that heat!
Thanks you two! May you always have happiness and love ahead of you, and may the Sox always win the AL East!
